Artist in Residence Program

Started in 2001, CSMART prides itself in being one of the few museums in South Florida that implements an Artist in Residence (AIR) program. Our AIR program has a visiting artist create a working studio at CSMART for a specific period of time to focus on their art discipline. The AIR mentors and introduces art as career to a competitively selected group of Advanced Placement (AP) high school art students. This program also provides the public with a unique opportunity to understand the process behind creating art.

CSMART provides the artist with a stipend, materials and a work studio to create his/her art. In return the artist works with high-school students selected for their outstanding abilities in the fine arts to create a masterpiece to add to our permanent collection. The community is also invited to observe the formative process as the artwork is created. Our past AIRs have run public art workshops, speak and present to adult and children tour groups, participated in Family Fun Days, and teach classes. Many of the art pieces resulting from this program can be viewed in the Museum's Peace and Sculpture Gardens.
